DC Getaway House Review

For my 32nd birthday (it’s hard to believe I’m nearly halfway through my thirties!!) I wanted to do something I’ve never done before: go camping… and I knew the perfect place: The Getaway House.

Tiny Cabin Life

I had been drooling over pictures of the tiny house cabins on Instagram for months and I finally decided to book the trip. Husbae was down for the adventure, even though he had no idea what to expect!

We packed up some groceries, board games, and clothes and headed to Shenandoah, Virginia for our Getaway.

The cabin was small but had plenty of space for both of us to be comfortable. One of my favorite features was the big picture window beside the platform bed. We also enjoyed cooking breakfast in front of the little window at the entrance of the cabin.

It took us SEVERAL tries to get a fire going, even with fire starters… but once we finally figured it out we were able to use the magic flame included in the Celebration Kit! You also get a complimentary s’mores kit which is a really nice touch.

The best part of the trip was being able to unplug and relax.

While we were surrounded by nature, we still need to work our way up to going on a hike. However, even though we mostly stayed near our cabin we were still able to enjoy the sights and sounds of Shenandoah.

I have never been camping, so I don’t have that experience to compare this one to, but I would classify this as “glamping.” We had a bathroom with a shower in the cabin, stove, and refrigerator. It’s nice that cups and dishes are already in the cabin, but you can also bring your own if you’d like.

What do you think about this Getaway House review? Would you try staying in a tiny cabin? I’m looking forward to staying at The Getaway again sometime!
